Solemnity

The highest rank in the liturgical calendar. Solemnities are reserved for the mysteries of Christ and the most important saints. Solemnities take precedence over Sundays in Ordinary time. If they fall on Sundays during a special season (Advent, Christmas time, Lent, Easter time), they are transferred to the following day. We sing the Gloria and Credo during Mass on solemnities. Solemnities at Saint-Pierre de Solesmes are holidays, when no manual work is done. We are completely free for prayer, lectio divina and a longer recreation period.
