Regular Oblate
St Benedict’s Rule makes provision for children to be entrusted to the monks, thus offering them (oblatus in Latin) to God to become monks. Today this term refers to a member of the monastic family who lives in the monastery even though he is unable to follow the full observance. He therefore promises permanent stability and obedience to the abbot rather than making our three vows of stability, conversatio morum and obedience.
