Our most precious heritage is prayer and the spiritual life. But we do not just praise God in the silence of our hearts. Praise is also expressed by weaving beauty into everything we do. For this reason, the monks of Solesmes have cultivated and continue to cultivate various arts: Gregorian chant, of course, for which our abbey is famous, as well as silver- and gold-plate design, vestment making, architecture and sculpting. Art and beauty have their place in the liturgy, although this is not the only outlet for their expression. Our whole life must become a hymn of praise to God.
Our concern to preserve this artistic and intellectual heritage is therefore rooted in our conviction that all truth and beauty speak to us of God.
