Since October 2, 1992, Solesmes and the Congregation of Solesmes have been governed by Dom Philippe Dupont. As did his predecessors, he intends to sustain the monastic and contemplative ideals of Dom Guéranger, whose cause for beatification he initiated along with the bishop of Le Mans. A group of monks has been charged with bringing together the various publications and the vast correspondence of Dom Guéranger. These are then officially presented to the roman congregation for the cult of saints. This work will take many years.
In December 1996, after the Chapter of Solesmes gave its favorable vote, Dom Dupont undertook the foundation of a monastery in Lithuania at Palendriai. The group of founders, some ten monks of Solesmes and several Lithuanians under the authority of Dom Hervé de Broc, lived for several years in a building destined to become a guest house for women. Almost immediately, work was begun on the vast project of building a monastery from scratch. Despite very difficult economic conditions following the collapse of Communism, the monastery was completed in a relatively short span of time. On June 7, 2002, the solemn consecration of the church was effected in the midst of a large crowd of enthusiastic Lithuanians.
History continues, ever ready to write new pages.
