History of the monastery

Solesmes owes most of its fame to Dom Guéranger.

Before him it was a modest priory, directly dependant upon the abbey of Saint Peter de la Couture in Le Mans. In the fifteenth century, Solesmes boasted a total population of ten monks. Covering its history --unless we delve into needless details of administration-- can therefore be done rapidly.
