Les Éditions musicales de Solesmes is proud to present the public with a truly rich selection of pieces which represent the choral chant of the monks of the Abbey of Solesmes over a period of some 50 years, from the first long-playing records to today's compact discs. The entire collection has been carefully digitalized.
There are two distinct collections:
The first, From 1979 until now, more recent collection gathers the remaining recordings over almost 25 years of Dom Jean Claire (1978 - 1996) and several recordings by his successor, Dom Richard Gagné and Dom Yves-Marie Lelièvre. There is also a recording of archival interest, the very first by the Solesmes monks, done in 1930 with the Société Gramophone.
The second, From 1952 to 1978, offers every recording of Dom Joseph Gajard directing the choir of the monks of Solesmes spanning a period of almost twenty years, (1952 - 1970), and his successor, Dom Jean Claire directing between 1972 and 1978.
Those recording were done in mono up until 1958; stereo was used for the first time in our recordings the next year with the album « Good Friday - Passion ».
